John Phelps Literary is always looking for new talent. We are particularly interested in Literary Fiction, Crime & Thriller, and thought-provoking Non-Fiction.

What we're looking for

Fiction: We focus on Literary Fiction and Crime & Thriller. We're looking for distinctive voices, compelling narratives, and books that will resonate with readers for years to come. Non-Fiction: We represent a wide range of non-fiction, from creative non-fiction and memoir to narrative history, biography, science writing, and books on culture and politics. The common thread is quality of writing and originality of thought.

What we don't represent

With a few exceptions for existing clients, we don't represent YA, Children's books, Poetry, Illustrated books, or Screenwriting.

How to submit

Please send your submission to: info@johnphelpsliterary.com Your submission should include: - A covering letter introducing yourself and your book - A synopsis (1-2 pages for fiction, a detailed proposal for non-fiction) - The first three chapters or 50 pages of your manuscript - A brief biography including any previous publications Please include all materials in the body of your email or as Word/PDF attachments. Due to the volume of submissions, we can only respond to those we wish to pursue further, usually within 6-8 weeks.

Response times

We aim to respond to all submissions that interest us within 6-8 weeks. If you haven't heard from us within that time, please assume that your project isn't right for our list on this occasion. We wish you every success in finding the right agent for your work.
